Bespoke Proposal Cover - Alexandria

2024

I was tasked with designing a bespoke proposal cover for a local government building project that visually communicated an understanding of both the client and the historic significance of the site. The proposal was for the City of Alexandria, Virginia, known for its proximity to Washington, D.C., and its historic Old Town district, characterized by colonial brick architecture and cobblestone streets. The project focused on the renovation of Alexandria’s City Hall, a landmark brick structure that embodies the city's architectural heritage.

The proposal team requested a graphic-based design rather than photography. To achieve this, I drew inspiration from the Alexandria City website and incorporated a stylized graphic representation of City Hall, ensuring the design remained both modern and respectful of tradition. Using Illustrator, I crafted a clean, visually compelling composition that balanced historical references with a contemporary design aesthetic. The final template successfully aligned with the project’s vision, creating a refined and professional presentation aimed to resonate with the client.

Research

The client for this proposal was the city of Alexandria, Virginia, known for its proximity to Washington, DC and being home to Old Town—a historic area with brick sidewalks. The project itself is a renovation of City Hall, a colonial brick building.

The team working on this proposal requested something graphic in nature as opposed to utilizing photographs.

Iterations

Shown here are multiple iterations of a few different design concepts. These were taken from significant elements found when researching Alexandria and the project, including a geometric vector I created of the Town Hall, brick motif, and the shape of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, a notable bridge in Alexandria.
